DjangoCon US '18

We tackled the visual identity and site development for a well known tech conference taking place in San Diego, CA. The event needed an inviting theme, a fun and professional site, swag, signage, and web-based marketing assets.

San Diego is an exciting place with exceptional weather and we wanted to capture that through color, while also relying predominantly on whitespace for the site.

DjangoCon US is a six-day international conference for the community by the community about the Django web framework, held each year in North America. The 2018 event is taking place in sunny San Diego and we put together four initial design directions for consideration, all based on the endlessly inspiring location.

This beach theme was ultimately chosen because of its fun and appropriate color palette, the more minimal site design potential, its versatile swag design options, and the too cute crab. We made custom icons for the site to match the stroke width of the main beach scene illustration and put together swag designs, signage, and social media graphics. We rethemed site and put together brand guidelines for the project to later be maintained by the open-source community.
