Get to Know Us

In our younger days we hosted LAN parties and ran anthropology clubs. As Big Serious Grownups, we lead conferences, design teams, and parent-teacher associations. When we moved to new cities, we started meetups and held coffee chats. At the center of every group, there we were sweating the details, thinking up cool logos, and making new friends.

We founded YupGup around the idea that designing something that brings people together is worthwhile. A thing can be thrown out, user interfaces change with trends, but creating something that people can be a part of is the basis of nostalgia. Change and greatness can happen here. Fond memories last forever. We want to help build those.

Meet the Gups

We’re two introverts who have been bringing people together for decades. We’re super duper excited to get to know you!

Partner, Strategy & Creative Direction

Known on the WWW as “Joni Bologna”, Joni is an author, teacher, designer, and a *flipping* magician when it comes to making allergy-free foods. She is passionate about community building and uses her design chops to engage anyone, anywhere. Joni works to diversify tech leadership through Ela Conf, a conference she co-founded in 2015. She collects animal shaped coffee mugs, occasionally eats squash, and is the creative powerhouse behind YupGup.

Michael Trythall

Partner, UX & Development

With a twinkle in his eye and clutching a trapper keeper full of dreams, Michael joined his middle school computer club in 1996. His first task was maintaining the school’s HTML 2 (!!) website. Since then he’s gone on to design and build countless applications, websites, brochures, logos, you-name-its for small, regional, and national brands. He believes in the open web, builds rad LEGO spaceships, and is easily persuaded with cookies.
